La Grande Damme 1990 75 cl

Born in 1777, Nicole Barbe Clicquot married François Ponsardin in 1798. Widowed at the age of 27, she resumed the business of her deceased husband. While Europe is ablaze, she managed to ship this champagne worldwide. Bold and imaginative, she presents her champagne all over Europe. Anxious to perfection, she usuallys visits the cellars at night to ensure the successful development of her vintages. She invented the riddling, bought plots in the best vineyards and actively fought against counterfeits. Madame Veuve Clicquot died in 1866 at the age of 89. Created in tribute to Madame Clicquot, La Grande Dame is marked by the pursuit of excellence: from the choice of grapes for this very special wine to the complexity of the blend composed of eight Grand Cru and the minimum aging of six years to reach maturity, everything is done to create a great wine of Champagne.
Developed only in very great vintage, La Grande Dame combines the strength and richness of Pinot Noir with elegance and richness of Chardonnay. The color is intense gold, tinged with green tints. The bubbles are very thin and delicate. The scents of extreme delicacy, develop fruity and floral aromas (white flowers, citrus, white fruit). The palate is dominated by rich and pleasing roundness. Perfectly balanced, the final taste reveals all the nobility of this exceptional cuvée.

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 1990 comes in its own gift pack and yields from an excellent Champagne vintage, which produced a bumper crop of ripe, concentrated wines.

The Wine Advocate

A stunning year and Vintage by what I believe to be the most underrated top Champagne house. Extremely wine like this beautiful, smooth, vibrant Champagne could be drank alone and still give so many amazing pleasures. Apple, pear, Citrus, orange, while slowly developing with more pastry and flower like aromas. Paired with a Lobster Salad and a Mixed platter of Jamon de Bellota and Manchego Queso Curado. Wild red berries and strawberries are the perfect match for dessert.
