To the eye, cherry red, pillory with ruby borders.
On the nose, show aromas of macerated fruit, compote, eucalyptus and menthol.
In the mouth, a subtle attack gives way to a mouth with opulence without being aggressive. End of mouth based on the great aromatic persistence and like in its baroque nose.
Predominantly Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Carmenere, Albillo. There is no register for which was the first harvest produced under the name ‘Vega Sicilia’, formerly known as ‘Eloy Lecanda’.

Dark red. Intense, expressive aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cherry liqueur, sandalwood, cigar box, roasted coffee and exotic chocolate. Thick and sweet, with deep red and dark berry flavors complicated by an array of pungent spices, mocha, vanilla bean and cured tobacco. Deep, penetrating and very long on the finish, with wonderfully sweet cherry and blackcurrant flavors lingering. Built to age, but this is awfully delicious right now.

94/100 (September 2006)
Wonderful aromas and taste of wild berries, blackberries, rasberries, liquorish, dark chocolate, coffee, perfectly balanced spices and lingering wild red fruits. The 94, 95, and 96 are all very special and delicious but this 1995 Gran Reserva by Vega Sicilia is likely to be my favourite. Like all classic Vega Sicilia wines the aging potential is infinite, providing they are cellared in optimum conditions we can continue to enjoy this beautiful wine in optimum drinkability for the next 20/30 years plus.
Wonderful and classic food pairing is Joselito Gran Reserva Bellota Jamon and Manchego Cheese, for main course a beautiful pairing is Roasted Leg of Spanish Lamb and sweet potatoes. A excellent dessert and contrast is Cheesecake.
